Trialogues/Annual Meeting Reports and Special Publications

The earliest Trialogues were informal bulletins on North American, European, and Japanese affairs. They covered the Commission’s committee and plenary meetings and featured contributions from individual authors on topics such as monetary policy, trade issues, governability, and the politics of human rights.

More recent Trialogues are reports on annual meetings, the latest of which is Seeking Opportunities in Crisis: Trilateral Cooperation in Meeting Global Challenges, a compilation of speaker presentations from the 2009 Tokyo Plenary Meeting.

Also published in the Trialogues series are special reports such as The Trilateral Commission at 25 and Commemorating 1989, the Year that Changed the Map of Europe (and Thereby the World), which was presented at the 2009 European Regional Meeting in Oslo. The most recent isA Tribute to Mario Vargas Llosa, recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature and former member of the European Group of the Trilateral Commission.

Most Trialogues are available in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) on this Web site and can be downloaded. Recent Trialogues are available in print from either Brookings Institution Press or the Trilateral Commission. Information on downloading PDFs and ordering books in print is provided under Trialogues.

Triangle Papers/Task Force Reports and Project Work

The major project work of the Trilateral Commission generally involves teams of authors from our three regions working together for a year or so on reports which are discussed in draft form in the annual meeting and then published as Task Force Reports in the series known as the Triangle Papers. The authors typically consult with many others in the course of their work. Their reports are made to the Commission, but the Commission itself does not take formal positions on them. Current project work is focused on addressing the challenges of globalization.

Task Force Reports to the Trilateral Commission have covered a wide range of topics. The most recent are The Global Economic Crisis by E. Gerald Corrigan, Sir Callum McCarthy, and Naoki Tanaka and Nuclear Disarmament and Nonproliferation by Harold Brown, Gilles Andréani, Kim Sung-Han, Sergei Karaganov, Ariel E. Levite, Masashi Nishihara, and Rajiv Sikri. Two earlier reports are Engaging Iran and Building Peace in the Persian Gulf Region by Volker Perthes, Ray Takeyh, and Hitoshi Tanaka, and Energy Security and Climate Change by John Deutch, Anne Lauvergeon, and Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja. These and other recent Task Force Reports may be ordered from Brookings Institution PressPDFs of many earlier Task Force Reports have been posted on the Commission's web site along with instructions for downloading those and ordering books still available in print.
