Andrzej Olechowski

Andrzej OlechowskiAndrzej Olechowski is a former chairman of Bank Handlowy; a member of the supervisory boards of Vivendi Universal, Citibank Handlowy, and PKN Orlen; and a director of Euronet. He also sits on the International Advisory Board of Textron and the European Advisory Board of Citigroup. A former minister of foreign affairs (1993-95) and minister of finance (1992) of the Republic of Poland, he is a founder of Civic Platform, a centrist political party created after the 2000 presidential elections in which he was a candidate. His previous positions include: chairman of the City Council in Wilanow (1994-98); economic advisor to President Walesa (1992-93, 1995); secretary of state, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations (1991-92); deputy governor, National Bank of Poland (1989-91); department director, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations (1988-89) and National Bank of Poland (1987-88); economist, The World Bank, Washington, DC (1985-87); economic affairs officer, UNCTAD, Geneva (1982-84); and department head, Foreign Trade Research Institute (1978-82). Educated at the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw (Ph.D.), he lectures at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Dr. Olechowski is the author of numerous publications on international trade and foreign policy, and he serves as European deputy chairman of the Trilateral Commission.
