Hans Wijers is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ING Group. He was Chairman of the Board of Management of Akzo Nobel N.V in Arnhem from 2003 to 2012. He also was Minister of Economic Affairs in Dutch Government form 1994-1998. He is also member of the Supervisory Board of HAL Holding B.V. and member of the European Advisory Panel of Temasek. Former member, later also Deputy Chairman, Royal Dutch Shell; Former Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Heineken, Amsterdam; former non-Executive Director, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), London.

He received a master’s degree in economics from the University of Groningen and a PhD in economics from Erasmus University of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After teaching economics at the Erasmus University (1976-82), he participated in two think-tanks for Dutch ministers and then became senior Consultant/Partner with various Dutch consulting firms and became Managing Partner in the Amsterdam office of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He has been involved in various charities, including the Royal Concertgebouw. He has also been Chairman of football club Ajax.
