Harald Mahrer

Harald Mahrer is President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and President of the General Council of the Austrian National Bank. He was Austrian Federal Minister for Research, Science, Energy and Business until December 2017; prior to that he was Secretary of State in that very department. A graduate of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, he holds a Doctorate in Social and Economic Sciences. After several years as a researcher focusing on digitization in the late nineties he left academia for the private sector. Over the last 25 years Harald Mahrer developed a strong experience in emerging technologies and their impact on different industries. He founded several companies, was dedicatedly involved in promoting the start-up ecosystem, and is still an active investor and business angel. As a philanthropist Mr. Mahrer was President of the Julius Raab Foundation from 2011 until 2015, and worked intensively in the area of corporate social responsibility, social impact investing, and promoting entrepreneurship. He founded the Austrian Association of Philanthropic Foundations.
