Klaus-Peter Müller was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Commerzbank AG from May 2008 until May 2018. Prior to this position, he served as Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors of Commerzbank (2001-2008). He was President of the Association of German Banks (2005-2009). He began his career with Commerzbank AG in 1966 after a traineeship in banking at Bankhaus Friedrich Simon KGaA in Düsseldorf and then a tour of duty in the military service as a 1st Lieutenant. With Commerzbank AG he has served as Joint Manager of the Düsseldorf, Duisburg and New York branches. He was Executive Vice President and Head of the Corporate Banking Department (1987-1990) and was appointed a Member of the Board of Managing Directors in 1990. Klaus-Peter Müller is a member of various Boards incl. Linde AG, Fresenius SE (all Germany), and Parker Hannifin Corporation (USA). Klaus-Peter Müller was Chairman of the German Government Commission on Corporate Governance (2008-2013). Furthermore, he sits on the Board of a number of non-profit organizations. In 2004 Prof. Dr. h.c. Müller was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Finance Academy of the Russian Federation, Moscow, and he lectures as Honorary Professor at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Frankfurt.
