Matthias Wissmann is Partner at the international law firm WilmerHale since 1999 and President of the World Automobile Industry Association (OICA) since October 2016. He graduated in law at the Universities of Tübingen and Bonn. Mr. Wissmann was Chairman of the German Young Christian Democrats from 1973 till 1983, President of the European Union Young Christian Democrats (EUYCD) from 1976-1982, Member of the National Board of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) from 1975-2007. In 1976, Mr. Wissmann became the youngest ever directly elected Member of the German Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag). He served as Federal Minister for Research and Technology and as Federal Minister of Transport from 1993 until 1998. Matthias Wissmann was President of the German Association of the Automobile Industry from 2007-2018. He has written a number of books, e.g. Für eine humane Gesellschaft – zum Programmdenken der jungen Generation (For a humane society – on the program mentality of the young generation) (1976), Marktwirtschaft 2000 (Market Economy 2000), Deutsche Perspektiven (German Perspectives) (1990) and Die Soziale Marktwirtschaft (Social Market Economy) (1998).
