Nina Hälg is a Program Officer for Multilateral Affairs at the Political Directorate of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Switzerland. She is responsible for Switzerland’s foreign policy on migration with a focus on human rights, peace and humanitarian issues and manages a global project portfolio in collaboration with NGOs, foundations and the private sector. Previously, she worked at the United Nations in New York from 2014-2018. She was appointed to work with the Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Ms. Louise Arbour, during the European refugee crisis in 2016. She was instrumental in supporting countries to reach the first ever comprehensive agreement on international migration, the “Global Compact for Migration” at the UN General Assembly in 2018. Prior, she worked at the Department for Economic and Social Affairs where she focused on migration and sustainable development including the Agenda 2030. Her field missions took her to West Africa to hold workshops on the relevance of globally comparable migration statistics. Nina started her career at the Swiss business federation in 2008 where she successfully generated interest in sustainability and human rights among Swiss MNEs and SMEs. In 2011, she founded the Swiss chapter of the UN Global Compact initiative – the largest corporate social responsibility initiative – launched by former UN Secretary- General Kofi Annan in 2000. Nina Hälg holds a MA in International Affairs and Governance from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Economy and English Linguistics from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She believes in innovative PPP solutions to address global challenges.
